to use in supporting and helping to deliver the fisheries
management program in the Smoky Area? If so, this position
might be for you!
Reporting to the Senior Area Fisheries
Biologist, you will work with the Area Fisheries Biologist
in a variety of duties including planning for and
implementing projects, participating in area research
activities including the delivery of field components such
as population surveys, data analysis, and some supervision
of technical or seasonal staff. You may also have the
opportunity to represent the fisheries management program
on various committees, and to make presentations to
government and public groups such as stakeholders, and
special interest groups to educate and inform them about
fisheries management in the Smoky Area.
You will be mentored by senior biological staff in this
entry level professional biologist position and will gain
progressive knowledge and experience in fisheries
management and science, while developing your skills as a
fisheries biologist. The successful candidate in this
position will have a good understanding of fish and
wildlife resource management techniques as well as their
policies, procedures, and legislation. You will have
excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong
working knowledge of MS Office Suite, and some demonstrated
research and analytical skills. You must also have
excellent field and technical skills that will allow you to
work in remote locations. Your experience with fish ageing,
various fisheries data collection techniques on lakes and
flowing water, operation of field equipment including ATVs,
boats, electro-fishers, and 4X4 trucks will ensure your
success in this position.
Qualifications:
Degree
in Fisheries Science or Biology is required. Supervisory
experience is an asset. Preference may be given to
applicants with relevant fisheries management experience.
Post-secondary graduate work will be considered in lieu of
some experience. This competition may be used to fill
