Aquatic
Biologist – Edmonton
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The
successful candidate will work within the fisheries and
aquatic resources group under the supervision of the lead
aquatic biologist. Primary responsibility will be to
conduct fisheries and aquatic resources component on wide
variety of projects, as delegated by the lead aquatic
biologist. This will involve the following:

Plan and conduct fisheries, wetland and wildlife field investigations

Develop environmental impact assessments and mitigation recommendations
-
Prepare proposals, written reports and regulatory approval applications
-
Prepare, submit and follow-up on environmental regulatory approval applications for a wide variety of development projects (i.e., transportation, pipelines, residential, stream restoration, etc.)

Construction and post-construction monitoring and auditing
The position will require that the successful candidate has a solid technical and/or academic background but more importantly, has client, regulatory, and management experience in the consulting industry. Experience within western Canada preferred. Key requirements include experience with some or all of the following:

Able to demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills
-
Fish inventory and aquatic habitat assessment techniques
-
Fish life history and habitat requirements, particularly Alberta fish species
-
Wetland delineation and classification, and vegetation inventory
-
Knowledge of provincial (Alberta) and federal environmental regulatory requirements
-
Experience developing fish habitat compensation for DFO Fisheries Act Authorizations
-
Experience conducting environmental impact assessments for wide range of projects
-
Able to work effectively within a team, and also independently on specific assignments
-
University Degree in Biology or Environmental Science, and/or applicants with technical diploma that have two or more years of professional experience
-
Either possess or be eligible for professional accreditation with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists or the BC College of Applied Biology
-
Two years of directly relevant experience, preferably in the consulting sector
-
Experience within Western Canada preferred
